Commands for viewing and using your Background advantages.
Backgrounds represent your character's social connections,
resources, and external assets.
VIEWING BACKGROUNDS:
+background
backgrounds
bg
List all your backgrounds with their current levels and benefits.
+background <name>
View detailed information about a specific background.
Examples:
+background # List all backgrounds
+background contacts # View Contacts details
+background resources # View Resources details
USING BACKGROUNDS:
+background/use <name>=<task description>
Use a background to gain bonus dice for a task.
Examples:
+background/use contacts=investigate the gang
+background/use allies=get police records
+background/use influence=sway city council vote
Effects:
- Grants bonus dice based on background level
- May consume one of your background's uses per session
- ST may require a roll to see if contacts come through
SPECIAL BACKGROUND COMMANDS:
+background/herd
Feed from your Herd background.
Reduces Hunger based on Herd level.
Safer than hunting on the streets.
+background/resources <item>=<rating>
Acquire an item using your Resources background.
Rating indicates item cost (1-5).
Can only acquire items at or below your Resources level.
Examples:
+background/herd # Feed from herd
+background/resources pistol=2 # Buy a pistol (rating 2)
+background/resources car=3 # Acquire a car (rating 3)
BACKGROUND TYPES:
Allies - Mortal friends who help when asked
Contacts - Information sources in various fields
Fame - Public recognition and celebrity
Haven - Safe resting place quality
Herd - Reliable feeding sources
Influence - Political or social pull
Mask - Alternate mortal identity
Mentor - Elder vampire guidance
Resources - Wealth and financial access
Retainers - Loyal servants (may be ghouls)
Status - Standing within Kindred society
USES PER SESSION:
Most backgrounds have limited uses per game session:
Level 1-2: 1 use per session
Level 3-4: 2 uses per session
Level 5: 3 uses per session
Uses reset at the start of each new session (or when ST calls
for a reset with +background/reset).
Some backgrounds (like Haven, Resources for small purchases)
may have unlimited uses at ST discretion.
STAFF COMMANDS:
+background/reset
Reset all background uses for a new session. (Staff only)
TIPS:
- Describe HOW you're using the background for better results
- Backgrounds work best when they fit the narrative
- ST may modify results based on circumstances
- Overusing contacts may strain relationships
Example Good Usage:
+background/use contacts=I call my source at the
police department to check for missing persons matching
the victim's description.
